My goal when painting places is to convey atmosphere, mood, and a sense of the season.  The graphic shapes of urban, small town or ancient architecture provide a wealth of design inspiration.  The organic shapes in landscapes provide an opportunity to exploit the more fluid aspects of watercolor.  Color, texture, and atmosphere are my favorite tools to convey a place at a moment in time.
